We are upgrading our water treatment plant for two primary reasons-

1. The EPA has made more stringent maximum contaminant levels for disinfection by-products. Our raw water combined with free chlorine puts us in violation of new regs. By changing from free chlorine to chlorine dioxide and chloramines, we should be well below any of their trigger levels for years to come. We tried the ozone route but it created bromate from the naturally occurring bromide found in Seneca Lake. The bromate levels formed were higher than allowed.

2. We are adding filters and larger pumps to meet/exceed water demands caused by the redevelopment at the Seneca Army Depot as well as other new water districts looking to us for their source of a safe and dependable water supply.
