"The Memory Bank" is an area that has been "adopted" and landscaped by Diane Freezee & Cal Goodman. It is located on the North side of the canal across Locust St. from "Vern's Way". If you haven't visited this area of the Village in a while, stop down and see how beautiful it has become. You will probably find Diane & Cal there!

2006 was the year that "Vern's Way", the walking path that connects Oak Island to the downtown business district, really started shaping up. Assemblyman Brian Kolb contributed a grant that was used to purchase 8 bollard style lights that were installed by the Village DWP. The Sessler family provided labor and equipment along with topsoil that was used in final grading. Seneca Meadows also contributed topsoil & mulch to the project. Two large berms were created and many various trees, bushes, plants, grasses and bulbs have been planted by volunteers. Many of the items planted were donated from gardens around the village. This is a work in progress..... Stop down and take a look!

Below are some of the "Island Gardens" along Virginia Street, Welcome Signs and Container Gardens that were all planted and maintained by committee volunteers.
Of course the watering duties fell to the gator riding Shorty Finnerty. Thank Tom!
